About Casda

Who We Are

The Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse (Casda) is a private, non-profit organization that has been supporting survivors of abuse since 1988. Originally formed through the merger of the Rape and Incest Victim Advocacy Group and the Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Casda was created to offer more coordinated, comprehensive services for those affected by violence.

Today, our team includes full-time and part-time staff, alongside a committed group of trained volunteers — all working together to support individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse.

Our Mission

Casda’s mission is to provide supportive services and promote healing for those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse, and to engage communities in efforts that end violence.

Who Casda Helps

Casda serves individuals of all ages, genders, and backgrounds — anyone impacted by abuse, no matter where they’re from. While our primary service area includes Superior, Wisconsin, and the Twin Ports communities in Douglas, Bayfield, and Ashland counties, our 24-hour help line (800) 649-2921 and advocacy services are open to all. If someone calls from across the bridge in Minnesota or another country, we’ll do our best to assist their needs.

Anti-Racism
Statement

Land
acknowled-gement

The Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse (Casda) recognizes that to carry out our mission, we must also work to dismantle racism and other forms of systemic oppression. Racism intersects with domestic and sexual violence, and often compounds its effects on victims. Our organization apologizes for the harm we have caused to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in our Community through historic failures on our part to recognize the ways systemic racism and oppression have informed our policies and practices.

Therefore, as we strive to empower individual survivors of abuse, we will actively work toward achieving equity for all Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in our community. Casda commits to further educating ourselves, recognizing and understanding our own privilege and the harm we have caused, and examining our biases, while acknowledging and validating the history and lived experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.

We would like to acknowledge that we are on the land of the Anishinaabe Nation. Northwestern Wisconsin was built on Anishinaabe lands that were ceded under federal treaties in the mid-1800’s. We make this acknowledgement as a first step in fulfilling our responsibility to critically look at colonial histories and their present-day ramifications. We commit to dismantling racism and invite you to do the same.
