CASDA

Inclusive, Confidential Support

Casda offers a wide range of confidential, trauma-informed services for adults and children impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. Our services are provided without discrimination—regardless of race, color, religion, ability, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, or income level.

High-Quality Services

Our programs are thoughtfully designed to meet survivors’ complex and varied needs. We are committed to maintaining the highest quality of care and continually expanding our services to ensure meaningful, effective, and accessible support. Casda’s main office and emergency shelter are in Superior, Wisconsin, but services are available throughout Ashland County and the Twin Ports.

Connect For Help

If you or someone you know needs support, please call our 24-hour help line at (800) 649-2921. Our trained advocates can listen, provide information, and help connect you with the services that best meet your needs.

Community Funded Mission

Our work is made possible through funding from federal, state, and county sources and generous support from private enterprises, foundations, businesses, community organizations, and individuals. This shared commitment allows Casda to provide safety, empowerment, and advocacy consistently.

Rural Outreach

Douglas County is not the only area we serve. Our Ashland and Bayfield County Outreach Program, based in our Ashland office, is staffed by an advocate who provides support to rural survivors. Services include crisis intervention, safety planning, information and referrals, legal advocacy (including restraining orders and court accompaniment), transportation to appointments or shelter, and ongoing follow-up based on individual needs. Outreach often involves meeting survivors in safe, private locations when travel is difficult. The Outreach Coordinator works closely with local professionals to raise awareness and coordinate referrals, ensuring that victims receive both emotional support and access to the full range of Casda services.

24-Hour Help Line

Support is just a phone call away. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, or stalking, Casda is here to help—day or night. Our trained staff and volunteers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Casda’s 24-hour help line provides crisis counseling, emotional support, information, and referrals to anyone in need. Our full-time and part-time staff are thoroughly trained in advocacy services, delivered with a culturally competent, empathetic, resourceful, and trauma-informed approach. Each call is answered with care, and if a caller is in immediate danger, we can begin screening for shelter options right away.

Some callers need a safe, unbiased, trauma-informed space to share their story and be guided to other community resources. Others are looking to leave a dangerous living situation without transitioning into a shelter, and our advocates can connect them with our Domestic Violence Housing First Program. There are countless ways our 24-hour help line supports individuals in finding the help they need. Whenever someone reaches out, they can trust that a trained advocate will be there to listen, support, and guide them toward safety and healing.

Advocacy Services

Casda advocates work closely with survivors to help them understand their rights and connect with services from other agencies or systems. We offer programs including the Children’s Program, Domestic Abuse Program, Domestic Violence Housing First Program, and Sexual Assault Program. When screening potential clients, we determine which advocate and program would best meet their needs. Each client is then connected with a dedicated advocate who provides consistent guidance, emotional support, and encouragement while respecting the client’s autonomy and personal decisions throughout their journey.

Emergency Shelter

Casda’s shelter provides a safe, welcoming space for individuals or parents with dependent children who need to leave a violent home. Open 24/7, residents may stay up to 45 days or longer. Advocates assist residents with exploring options, setting goals, and meeting their needs. Our Shelter Program Coordinator oversees care coordination and case management, ensuring safety, comfort, and compassionate support. We accommodate cultural needs and even welcome one pet per client to ensure both emotional and physical safety. Residents and staff work together to maintain a clean, home-like environment, including shared cleaning tasks, laundry, and holiday decorating.

Children's Programs

Our Children’s Program provides developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive services for children who are victims or witnesses of domestic violence or sexual assault. Programming supports both children and their protective parent, in both shelter and non-residential settings. Services include strength-based advocacy, trauma-informed care, safety planning, and connections to community resources. The program is flexible, meeting children at school or outside regular hours to minimize disruption to their learning. Our strong partnerships with local school districts ensure children and families can participate fully and safely.

Peer Counseling

Our trained staff and volunteers provide one-on-one crisis counseling, emotional support, and guidance to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. Support can be offered immediately after an incident or later, on an ongoing basis if needed. Our 24-hour peer counseling ensures that help is always available. We recognize that healing is a personal and nuanced process, which is why survivors have access to support via phone, email, or walk-ins whenever they need it.

Support Groups

Casda offers support groups covering topics such as violence education and self-sufficiency for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. Interested individuals can contact us via phone or email for information about attending. Our trained and screened volunteers provide childcare during group sessions so parents can fully engage. Group sessions explore topics including the power and control wheel, signs of abuse, healthy coping strategies, self-care, and the value of peer and community support.
